“I will continue to think about this novel for many days to come.”
Posted on 09/15/13
“The Sand Dollar: A Story of Undying Love by Sebastian Cole is thought provoking. I will continue to think about this novel for many days to come. I never thought there were so many ways to think about romantic love. What is love? What is false love? Noah and Robin are the main characters. There is always something or someone who presents an obstacle to their fast growing attraction for one another. Finding out whether there love is true and can last a life time takes a long time.
So often family members can present a problem for those who want to love one another forever. Noah is Jewish. Robin is not Jewish. This was not a problem for Noah or Robin. They just loved one another without a thought about the what ifs of loving someone who grew up with different traditions. However, Mariam, the mother, goes absolutely nuts when she learns that Robin is not Jewish. I was glad that Noah had the kind of love which remains steadfast through thick and thin. Robin was the one who taught him that it is alright to think for yourself and to make your own decisions. Your life is not your parents’ life. Neither is your parents’ life your life. Since life is as fragile as a Sand Dollar, there is no time to live by the persuasions of other people.
I felt that Noah’s character grew far quicker than Robin’s character. At some points in the novel I didn’t like Robin. I felt she mistreated Noah. I felt she was terribly immature. I felt that she made Noah look and sound immature. I did not want Noah to love her. It is not easy to know whether Noah and Robin’s love will last forever or just fall away in the sand. This is why I began to see the intricacies of love. For example, if the one you love stops loving you, do you continue to love them or give up and settle for a person you only love a little bit? When is it time to give up on love? When is it time to hold steady and wait for the one you really love?
Yes, this is a tear jerker. For every tissue you use there is a golden nugget of truth about romantic love wrapped in the tear. The tears are not wasted. The tears cried while reading this book are splashes of the meaning of genuine love in a time when the world is turning, growing, changing so rapidly. It is a love letter to those who wish to love someone more honestly and more deeply than ever before in their life.
There is also the questions about the end of life. What happen to our bodies? What happens to our souls? When is it time to let a love one pass to the other side? These deep questions and other questions were laid before me by the author, Sebastian Cole. I am so happy this book came into my hands. I feel that the book might have been sent by the angels.” — Tea and Inspiration

“Dreaming was the only way I kept him alive.”

★★★★★ Awesome in every way
“I read this book overnight as a birthday present to myself. I could relate to this story as I too like everyone else have that one true love that got away. For many years I dreamt of him, looking for him where I first met him in the old Sears building downtown Charlotte. I would see him and call him but he never responded. Dreaming was the only way I kept him alive.”

North Scituate, RI — September 12. Award-winning author Sebastian Cole will be discussing his journey through writing and publishing his debut novel, Sand Dollar: A Story of Undying Love, on Tuesday, October 22 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm as part of the 2013 Rhode Island Authors Series at the North Scituate Public Library, 606 West Greenville Rd, North Scituate, RI 02857. He’ll also be discussing what inspired him to write the novel, as well as the unexpected rewards derived from touching the lives of others through his writing. Joining him will be fellow RI author Julien Ayotte, author of Flower of Heaven.
Cole’s novel has won numerous awards, including being the winner of the Beverly Hills Book Award, the bronze winner of ForeWord Reviews Book of the Year Award, a finalist in the International Book Awards, and a finalist in ForeWord Firsts debut literary competition. Sand Dollar has a rating of 4.5 stars (out of 5 stars) on Amazon with over 100 reviews, and the eBook version recently made the list of Amazon’s top 100 best selling paid eBooks in the fiction category.
Set in Rhode Island, Sand Dollar is about an elderly man’s deathbed encounter with a hospital orderly, in which he professes his undying love for his soul mate and one true love, Robin, who also happens to be “the one who got away.” As his family members arrive to bid him goodbye, Noah’s story takes on new life, and he discovers a far greater truth about the past, present, and future. Things are definitely not as they appear as the pieces of a shattered love are put back together in the remarkable final chapter of Noah’s life.
Although Sand Dollar is considered to be a romantic fantasy — a kind of cross between The Notebook and The Sixth Sense — the book distinguishes itself from other romance novels in its genre by its honest portrayal of life as a recurring tragedy — a roller coaster ride of sorts between joy and heartache — and the faith needed to overcome it. As a result, Sand Dollar is a thought-provoking, emotional read that, among other things, might even have you yelling at the main characters at times. And not only is it filled with plenty of twists and turns, but the surprise ending is a real shocker.
Sebastian Cole never intended on being a writer. He graduated from Brown University in the 80s, then worked briefly in New York before returning to Rhode Island to work in his family’s business. Nineteen years later, he took a leap of faith and left the company to pursue his dreams, which has led him to where he is now: a novelist of romantic fiction. Cole writes from the heart, believing in true love, love at first sight, and finding that one person in life you’re meant to be with. Many have compared Cole to Nicholas Sparks, whom Cole cites as his favorite author and inspiration for becoming an author. Whether or not he ever achieves that kind of success, touching the lives of others through his writing has been the single most gratifying thing he has ever done.

“If you LOVED The Notebook, you will, with no doubt, LOVE Sand Dollar!”
Posted on September 09, 2013
★★★★★ 4.5 ROMANTIC, UNDYING LOVE STARS
“If someday you should ever think of me and miss me, know in your heart that I’d want you to find me once again. No matter how distant in time or space..FIND ME.”
“We don’t choose love…love chooses us.”
If you LOVED The Notebook, you will, with no doubt, LOVE Sand Dollar! This book had me at page one and did not let me go. You hear the love story spanning 60+ years between Noah and Robin from Noah’s POV. The narration of this book is flawless!
The story opens with Noah at his wedding, and Robin shows up after many years. That first chapter is heart grabbing, emotional, tearful!
“I wanted to hate you so bad, but I couldn’t stop loving you long enough to hate you. If there were any way I could have erased your memory from my brain, I would have done it in a heartbeat. But not a chance of that…not with my heart refusing to let go. I would have given my left lung just to hold you in my arms for one more day, just one day. Thirteen years, and not a day gone by that I didn’t pray you’d come back, look into my eyes, and say the words that you just said to me.”
Noah was a born romantic. He always wanted a wife, a woman to love, a woman to love him, his soul mate! He believed in this and when he met Robin he knew he had found that perfect woman!
“For me, I guess it was kind of like trying on different pairs of shoes. You know…until you try them on and wear them for a while, you really don’t know if they’re going be a good fit. But I wasn’t looking for just any woman; I was searching for one in particular–my soul mate. I had no idea where to find her, but I knew one thing for sure: I’d know her when I see her.”
“No one else ever looked at me that way before–or after for that matter. The connection in our eyes, the window to our souls, couldn’t possibly be any stronger. Yeah, I had found my soul mate all right, and my life would never be the same.”
As you become engrossed with Robin and Noah’s love for one another, you will be cheering them on. You will become mad at Robin. You will become frustrated with Noah and all his “too nice” tactics. You will never stop fighting for them to make it.
“Why do you keep looking at me like that?” he asked.
“Because you give me butterflies.”
“I know what you mean. When I look at you looking back at me like that…I get them too.”
My heart ached, my heart healed, my heart pounded for joy. Their is huge amounts of emotional investment in this book and every damn word is worth it!!
“Stay…so every morning when I open my eyes, you’ll be the first thing I see. Stay…so everyday when I’m with you, I can show you all over again exactly how much you mean to me. And stay…so every night when you lay your head next to mine, you’ll know…you’ll know just how much you’re loved.”
Noah’s love for Robin never stopped and even though Robin had to fight some inner demons her true love for Noah never left.
“I guess what I’m really trying to tell you is…we loved each other’s souls, and as long as we had each other, we were happy. And in the end, that’s all that really matters.” — Sara

“I recommend this book to everyone!!!”
Posted on August 15, 2013
★★★★★ Sand Dollar
“Sand Dollar is a romantic love story with a few twists and turns. An eighty year old man named Noah is on his death bed as he reflects back on his life and tells the story of his soul mate, Robin.
I loved this book! The author did a great job on the plot and the characters. I felt for each character in the book, and at times I hated each character. I understand why Robin did some of the things she did based on her condition but I found her very frustrating at times. I thought Noah was a very beautiful person and I felt very bad for him throughout the book. The book itself was very well written.
I really enjoyed Sand Dollar and gave it a 5/5. I look forward to reading more books by Sebastian Cole in the future. The cover of the book is also very beautiful.
I recommend this book to everyone!!!” — Brittany Schneider

A love that goes beyond all beyonds
Posted on August 09, 2013
★★★★
“At the end of the book, the author mentioned that the story is true, though how it will pan out in real life is yet unknown. This ultra-romantic love story spans decades in the lives of all the characters. It demonstrates that love can withstand the test of time, even go beyond it. If I have one critique, it’s that the breaks in time were not clearly defined. The book indeed played out like a screenplay, as the author himself mentioned, since it’s a dream to see this story on film. Other than that, all I can say to the real-life Noah is that yours is a love beyond all beyonds; and for that I give it to you.” — NenetteU

“It has it all…mystery, romance, history, love and hate.”
Here is the book’s description from the Amazon website:
Noah Hartman, eighty years old, lies sick in a hospital bed recounting his life of love and loss to Josh, a wise and compassionate orderly who stopped in to bring him dinner. As Noah’s loved ones arrive one by one to see him, they listen in on his story, and we’re transported back in time to Noah’s younger years.
Though outwardly seeming to have it all, Noah, now thirty-five, is actually an empty, lost, and broken man running on automatic pilot. He has no true identity due to having allowed his powerful, wealthy parents to manipulate, control, and brainwash him from a young age. With the threat of disinheritance and withholding love and approval if he doesn’t comply with the plan they have for his life, Noah is lured in by the reward of great wealth and the illusion of running the family business empire some day. In truth, however, Noah is like a regular, everyday guy living a life that was not meant for him.
Enter Robin, twenty-five years old, who — in direct contrast to Noah — is a vivacious, free spirit. Full of life and always living in the moment, Robin’s love saves Noah by inspiring him to stand up to his parents and live his own life at all costs, reclaiming his true self.
While snorkeling in the Caribbean, the captain of the boat warns them not to disturb anything in the sea. Ignoring the exhortation, Noah dives down and snags a sand dollar from the ocean floor, whereupon it explodes in his hand. With the fragile sand dollar taking on new significance, Robin inexplicably leaves Noah shortly after returning from their vacation. Like a passing breeze, she disappears out of his life without a trace, seemingly forever.
Years pass, and Noah still can’t get her out of his mind and out of his heart. After all, she’d always be the one who got away, the one he loved the most. That’s when he finds out about her hidden secret, an underlying condition responsible for her departure. Noah has no choice but to move on with his life without her, meeting Sarah at the premiere of SAND DOLLAR, the movie he wrote about his time with Robin.
Years later, it’s Noah and Sarah’s wedding day, and Robin discovers a clue that Noah had surreptitiously sent her, inspiring her to race to the wedding to try to stop it. With the wedding in shambles, the scene jumps back to present day, with both Robin and Sarah placed in Noah’s hospital room. But which one did he choose?
Things are definitely not as they appear as Noah discovers a far greater truth about the past, present, and future. As Noah finishes telling his story, we are brought up to present day, where the pieces of a shattered love are put back together in the remarkable final chapter of his life.

“It is an amazing story about love, disappointment, and the human spirit.”
Posted on July 25, 2013
★★★★★ AN AMAZING LOVE STORY!
“This book was recommended to me by my husband who told me that Sabastian Cole was a local author who wrote in the style of one of my favorite authors, Nicholas Sparks. I read the book during my flight to Alaska and found it to be an amazing story about two people who found each other against incredible odds and were meant to be together. The undying love that Noah, the main character, had for his soul mate, Robin, was unfathomable. As I read the book, I kept thinking to myself that I would have given up and moved on with my life. However, as all great love stories are told, Noah never gave up. It is an amazing story about love, disappointment, and the human spirit. I found myself unable to put it down! This a a MUST READ!!!!!!!” — soulgirl
