Love Truly Defined!

“My kind of romance story. God knows our hearts, and provides our needs. To have the kind of love written in this book / ebook, is probably not as rare as we think. For those who actually HAVE this kind of love… treasure it! Life is but a vapor and soon passes away, as Noah teaches us throughout his story, life and love, but also as fragile as a sand dollar.” — Deborah’s Kindle

“I will continue to think about this novel for many days to come.”

A9RED1A.tmp.pdf“The Sand Dollar: A Story of Undying Love by Sebastian Cole is thought provoking. I will continue to think about this novel for many days to come. I never thought there were so many ways to think about romantic love.  What is love? What is  false love? Noah and Robin are the main characters. There is always something or someone who presents an obstacle to their fast growing attraction for one another. Finding out whether there love is true and can last a life time takes a long time.

So often family members can present a problem for those who want to love one another forever. Noah is Jewish. Robin is not Jewish. This was not a problem for Noah or Robin. They just loved one another without a thought about the what ifs of loving someone who grew up with different traditions. However, Mariam, the mother, goes absolutely nuts when she learns that Robin is not Jewish. I was glad that Noah had the kind of love which remains steadfast through thick and thin. Robin was the one who taught him that it is alright to think for yourself and to make your own decisions. Your life is not your parents’ life. Neither is your parents’ life your life. Since life is as fragile as a Sand Dollar, there is no time to live by the persuasions of other people.

I felt that Noah’s character grew far quicker than Robin’s character. At some points in the novel I didn’t like Robin. I felt she mistreated Noah. I felt she was terribly immature. I felt that she made Noah look and sound immature. I did not want Noah to love her. It is not easy to know whether Noah and Robin’s love will last forever or just fall away in the sand. This is why I began to see the intricacies of love. For example, if the one you love stops loving you, do you continue to love them or give up and settle for a  person you only love a little bit? When is it time to give up on love? When is it time to hold steady and wait for the one you really love?

Yes, this is a tear jerker. For every tissue you use there is a golden nugget of truth about romantic love wrapped in the tear. The tears are not wasted. The tears cried while reading this book are splashes of the meaning of genuine love in a time when the world is turning, growing, changing so rapidly. It is a love letter to those who wish to love someone more honestly and more deeply than ever before in their life.

There is also the questions about the end of life. What happen to our bodies? What happens to our souls? When is it time to let a love one pass to the other side? These deep questions and other questions were laid before me by the author, Sebastian Cole. I am so happy this book came into my hands. I feel that the book might have been sent by the angels.” — Tea and Inspiration

“Dreaming was the only way I kept him alive.”

★★★★★  Awesome in every way

“I read this book overnight as a birthday present to myself. I could relate to this story as I too like everyone else have that one true love that got away. For many years I dreamt of him, looking for him where I first met him in the old Sears building downtown Charlotte. I would see him and call him but he never responded. Dreaming was the only way I kept him alive.”

North Scituate, RI — September 12. Award-winning author Sebastian Cole will be discussing his journey through writing and publishing his debut novel, Sand Dollar: A Story of Undying Loveon Tuesday, October 22 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm as part of the 2013 Rhode Island Authors Series at the North Scituate Public Library, 606 West Greenville Rd, North Scituate, RI 02857. He’ll also be discussing what inspired him to write the novel, as well as the unexpected rewards derived from touching the lives of others through his writing. Joining him will be fellow RI author Julien Ayotte, author of Flower of Heaven.

Sebastian ColeCole’s novel has won numerous awards, including being the winner of the Beverly Hills Book Award, the bronze winner of ForeWord Reviews Book of the Year Award, a finalist in the International Book Awards, and a finalist in ForeWord Firsts debut literary competition. Sand Dollar has a rating of 4.5 stars (out of 5 stars) on Amazon with over 100 reviews, and the eBook version recently made the list of Amazon’s top 100 best selling paid eBooks in the fiction category.

Set in Rhode Island, Sand Dollar is about an elderly man’s deathbed encounter with a hospital orderly, in which he professes his undying love for his soul mate and one true love, Robin, who also happens to be “the one who got away.” As his family members arrive to bid him goodbye, Noah’s story takes on new life, and he discovers a far greater truth about the past, present, and future. Things are definitely not as they appear as the pieces of a shattered love are put back together in the remarkable final chapter of Noah’s life.

Although Sand Dollar is considered to be a romantic fantasy — a kind of cross between The Notebook and The Sixth Sense — the book distinguishes itself from other romance novels in its genre by its honest portrayal of life as a recurring tragedy — a roller coaster ride of sorts between joy and heartache — and the faith needed to overcome it. As a result, Sand Dollar is a thought-provoking, emotional read that, among other things, might even have you yelling at the main characters at times. And not only is it filled with plenty of twists and turns, but the surprise ending is a real shocker.

Sebastian Cole never intended on being a writer. He graduated from Brown University in the 80s, then worked briefly in New York before returning to Rhode Island to work in his family’s business. Nineteen years later, he took a leap of faith and left the company to pursue his dreams, which has led him to where he is now: a novelist of romantic fiction. Cole writes from the heart, believing in true love, love at first sight, and finding that one person in life you’re meant to be with. Many have compared Cole to Nicholas Sparks, whom Cole cites as his favorite author and inspiration for becoming an author. Whether or not he ever achieves that kind of success, touching the lives of others through his writing has been the single most gratifying thing he has ever done.
